Hey folks, this isn’t going to be much of a post as it is a journal entry. When I first started this website I wanted to use it as that. I don’t really like blogging but I want to be able to look back at my progress as a filmmaker. I think it’s an understatement to say that 2020 has started out…rocky. If you’ve been reading my blog at all you are probably aware I suffer from anxiety. This year has not been kind to people like us. For those of you who are having an even harder time and may be considering committing suicide please, please get help at 1-800-273-8255. You are far better off alive, even now than otherwise.Read More »
About a month and a half ago I promised my readers that I would be updating them on everything I’m doing for the process of my first feature film. That film was to be called Undertome, based off the game my best friend and I designed over six years ago. That has since been tabled. The main reason is because it’s too ambitious at this point and I wouldn’t want to attempt to make that film without the necessary overhead and frankly, experience.Read More »
Something that a lot of artists, be they musicians, painters, photographers, or filmmakers struggle with is self critique. We are both our harshest critics and our biggest cheerleaders (or else we should be). We will both love and hate a project and will constantly try to nit pick at little details or second guess decisions all in the name of “perfection”. We want what we’re creating to be perfect all the time because we, as artists, like showing off our art but we don’t like showing off something we don’t think is “good”.Read More »
As some of you might know, I’ve done some voice acting with my most recent project being the Cryptic Podcast. Season 1 just wrapped and the kickstarter for season 2 has begun! I voiced a smaller role as Chuck, the producer of the Cryptic Podcast and had a lot of fun with it. The show is in the style of the old radio drama programs like The Shadow which I used to listen to on tape as a kid, so when my friend Jeremiah put out the call for auditions I jumped at the chance.Read More »
So today’s offering is a day late because hey…life happens. Like most budding filmmakers I work a day job to make ends meet and feed my cat. Sometimes day job and film life butt up against each other and yesterday was one such…butting? Anyway, I attended the monthly Film Cafe meeting in Cleveland which began shortly after I punched out of work and my film was showing after the main speakers where I was then given the opportunity to answer a few questions about the film from the 10 people of about 30 that deigned to watch some local films that weren’t theirs.Read More »
I’m writing this as I sit in my car listening to the Cavs game. I’m supposed to be meeting somebody at the local comedy club but they’re running late and the fact it was Wednesday just slapped me in the face.

I am two years into this filmmaking journey and even though I was well aware of the things I didn’t know about making movies, I guess I never realized just how much I didn’t know. Being a first time director and hiring a crew it was very easy (and tempting) to rest on the laurels of the crew to carry you through the production but that’s a surefire way to invite disaster on your set. Thankfully I was able to resist that temptation because I’ve been blessed with very competent crew members so far and have actually learned a lot more working with them than I could have watching tutorial videos or reading a book.Read More »

I started this website a year ago before I even made my first film and I thought: “This will be easy! I’ve tons of topics to write about!” but then reality set in and I soon realized I had no idea what I was doing or why anybody would care to spend time reading what I had to say about writing, directing, and filmmaking. I added a film review topic that Cory North is now heading, so if you want a film review or you’re curious about how a film did head over to his section.
But that’s about it. I’ve blogged maybe once a month in total since then and I’ve reaped all of the results of that “habit”. This is one such post, however I’m going to try to make a weekly post every Wednesday about something. Whether it’s a movie I’ve seen, what I’m currently working on, or something I find interesting about the filmmaking process. Writing, like anything, requires effort and practice. My Wednesday blogs are going to be my practice as I try to turn this website around. If this is your first time visiting please click around and watch some of my short films, read my about me, and introduce yourself in a comment. If there’s even one person besides me reading these (hi mom), I think it’s worth it.
So check back Wednesday as I begin the first weekly blog post of 2020!
One of the first pieces of advice I was given when I began writing scripts was to first write an outline. I ignored that bullshit… and immediately regretted it. Since then I’ve written at least a skeleton outline of what happens in Act I, II, and III of all of my projects so I know the direction I want to go. From there it’s figuring out what my characters want and how they get it which brings them to the next plot point in the story.Read More »
